Boston’s: Where Everybody Knows Your Name

August 8, 2012 No Comments by Champagne Girl

There is nothing better than reuniting with friends from the past and I recently hit the jackpot. About eight years ago B.C. (before children) I was a bartender at Bonefish Grill in South Tampa and it was during my time there that I met some pretty amazing people who are still my friends today. Since my time working there,  I went on to have two children and living the life of a single mom, I lost touch with a few people.  Recently I was in need of a photographer and my friend Kristie, whom I also met at Bonefish, told me that our mutual friend Rebecca was a talented photographer and that I should give her a call.  Rebecca, along with her husband Tom, is another blast from my Bonefish past and getting re-acquainted with her has been magical. About a month ago, we met at Timpano in South Tampa for a photo shoot and her work is nothing short of incredible.  Both her and Tom own Blink of an Eye Photographic Arts and the two of them make an awesome team.  We have been working together on numerous projects and most recently they invited me to one of their favorite spots, Boston’s on Anderson Road in Tampa. It was a magical day filled with delicious food and engaging conversation.

Located at 9316 Anderson Road in Tampa, Boston’s is a restaurant and sports bar that has a tremendous following.  Tom and Rebecca, along with several other friends of mine have been long time Boston’s regulars. When I asked Rebecca what it was about Boston’s that has made her such a loyal fan she stated, “Delicious food, great value, great access to all sporting events and the management has become like family!  It’s our home away from home!” That was all she needed to say to convince me to go and meet her and Tom for lunch at Boston’s.

It was a warm, Saturday afternoon and I headed out to Boston’s for a late lunch. I invited my friend, who is also named Rebecca (I will refer to her as Becca to avoid confusion), so she could have a little taste of food blogging. We arrived about 2 and were warmly greeted by Rebecca who was taking photographs of the outside.  As we walked in and were seated, Jana (director of sales and marketing) came over and introduced herself and said she would be going over some of the items we would be sampling as well as answer any questions we may have.

We started off with Boston’s Team Platter which consisted of Classic Pepperoni pizza, Oven Roasted Wings, Southwest Ravioli and Boneless Wings.  Perfect for sharing, this is a nice appetizer with variety.  Boston’s does a great job on their wings and I love that they are oven-roasted. They offer six flavors of wing sauce: Hot, Creamy Buffalo, Sweet Baby Ray’s Barbeque, Cajun, Spicy Garlic and Asian Glaze. You can also choose any of those sauces for the boneless wings. This was my first time sampling Boston’s pizza and it was quite delicious! You can’t go wrong with pepperoni and Boston’s didn’t disappoint. Baked to perfection, the cheese and sauce melted in my mouth. I can’t wait to try some of their other featured pizzas.  The Southwest Raviolis were my favorite because they were a nice change from a standard fried ravioli. Lightly breaded with Ricotta, Monterey Jack and Cheddar cheeses along with jalapeños and red peppers, they have a spicy kick and awesome flavor. Dip them in ranch and you have a winner!

Next came time to cool down with a Strawberry Banana Colada. This frozen concoction of Cruzan Banana Rum, Strawberry Puree, Finest Call Piña Colada Mix and Midori is tropical bliss! I have never been big on frozen drinks but this one changed my mind! Smooth and creamy,  this drink is like paradise in a glass. Since I was driving, I only took  a few sips and let Becca have it.  She LOVED it.

One of the things I liked most about my visit to Boson’s is the diversity of their menu and the wide variety of healthy options.  Jana brought out their Mediterranean Salad with Flatbread and right away my eyes lit up like a Tiffany diamond. Fresh mixed greens with Kalamata olives, sun-dried tomatoes and  red onions tossed with a lemon vinaigrette dressing and topped with  feta cheese and roasted red bell peppers, this salad was divine! It is served on their signature Parmesan  flatbread and you can also add chicken or salmon. For me, this was love at first bite and the dressing was simply awesome. I think I will order this as my main course and add chicken on my next visit.

This California girl knows good flatbread and apparently, so does Boston’s. The first we tried was the Extreme Mushroom and it was fantastic! A crispy flatbread covered with mushroom pesto made from Portobella, Shiitake and Porcini mushrooms and then topped with Parmesan bread crumbs, mozzarella cheese and sliced marinated mushrooms, this was DELISH! I have never had a mushroom pesto until now and I don’t know how I have lived without it.

Next we tried the Flat Iron Flatbread which consisted of thinly sliced flat-iron steak coupled with marinated mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and a thin layer of bleu cheese sauce atop their crisp flatbread. WOW!  This was phenomenal! I simply adore anything with bleu cheese and their sauce was outstanding. This is perfect to share with a group or even to order as an entrèe. I think I know where I will be this football season!

I was starting to get full and didn’t think I could eat another bite and then……our next dish arrived.  Jana brought us their Mama Meata Bow Tie Pasta and mamma mia was it good!  This dish is one of their famous pizzas made pasta style! With diced pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, meatballs and bow tie pasta tossed in a Bolognese sauce and topped with Parmesan cheese, this is the ultimate comfort food. My daughter would go crazy over this pasta, as she is known as the “pasta princess.” :)

Boston’s not only has a great food menu, they also have a wonderful selection of specialty cocktails and martinis. In honor of the new Batman movie, they were featuring movie-themed cocktails and I got to try their Cat’s Meow Martini. The purrfect blend of Van Gogh Peanut Butter and Jelly Vodka, Hazelnut Liquor and Raspberry Liquor, you really need to sink your claws into this decadent adult libation.  I really wanted to drink the whole thing, but since I was driving, Becca got to do the honors. :)

Our final dish was another winner.  Featured on the “Healthy Hits” portion of their menu, the Asian-Glazed Salmon is an 8 oz. salmon filet topped with our Asian glaze and served with broccoli and Florentine rice.  I have to say, salmon is not one of my favorites and this really knocked my socks off with its terrific flavors. The Asian Glaze should be bottled and sold and stores because  I would use it on everything!  Now, I never order salmon when dining out but I would order this in a New York minute.  In addition to being so dang delicious, it is healthy!  It just doesn’t get better than that.

As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and we ended our fabulous lunch on a sweeet note. Jana must know I have a sweet tooth because she brought us a sample of each of their Petite Treats. Perfectly portioned mini desserts, we got to try Apple Crisp, Chocolate Brownie Addicition, Bread Pudding Bites and Strawberry Cheesecake.  Sweet and decadent, all of them were wonderful and my favorite was the Bread Pudding Bites. With warm crispy cinnamon bread bites tossed in sugar and drizzled with brandy butter and chocolate sauce, it was savory and scrumptious.

My first experience at Boston’s was certainly a delicious one and now I know why Tom and Rebecca have been such loyal customers. From the friendly staff to the wonderful food, Boston’s is a great place to meet friends for drinks while watching the game or to go and have a nice family dinner. I look forward to my next visit and I hope you can go and try some of the amazing things on their menu.
