Organic and Awesome at Rollin' Oats

Being from California, I am a huge fan of health-food markets, such as Whole Foods, and unique, specialty markets like Trader Joe’s.  Trader Joe’s is probably the one store I miss the most.  Everyday I ask God to please let one open in Tampa.  If you have never been to a T.J.’s, you are really missing out!  They offer incredible items for low prices.  Their wine selection is fantastic and you can get an amazing bottle of vino for as little as $4.  When I go home to my city by the bay, I always get a case of wine from Trader Joe’s and ship it back to Tampa.  In fact, one of my favorite wines is called, “?”.  Yes, “?”.  It is a red table wine from Oreana Winery in Santa Barbara.  The first time I saw a bottle I thought it was hilarious.  I bought one, cracked it open and it was delicious. It is “soft, satiny, sexy wine, with voluptuous black cherry and blackberry fruit, plus layers of chocolate and spices suggestive of cinnamon, mint and more. Powerful and complex, yet open and accessible.”

Let me get back to reality now.  Since the closest Trader Joe’s is located in Atlanta, I have been searching for my own version of a Trader Joe’s in Florida and I finally found it………….Rollin’ Oats.  They have two locations.  One in St. Pete, located at 2842 Dr. Martin Luther King St. North and the other is conveniently located a few miles from my office at 1021 N. MacDill in Tampa.  Rollin’ Oats is another place I learned about on Twitter.  I went in last week for lunch and have to say I had some of the best soup I have had since I arrived in Florida seven years ago.  It was a Tomato Basil Pesto and it was heaven in a cup.  It was so good that not only did I have it for lunch, I bought some to take home for dinner and ate it before I left the office.  All of my coworkers were telling me how delicious it looked.  (Yeah, they were jealous!) I have been craving it since, especially with this cold weather.

While I was getting my soup, I spotted some chicken curry salad.  YUM!  I love chicken curry and of course, had to order some.  It had the perfect blend of seasonings and it, of course, was some of the best chicken curry salad I have ever had.

There were so many delicious looking items to choose from!  I will be going back this week to try some more of their awesome food.  They have plenty of tables, so be sure to stop in and have a nice relaxing lunch.  Be sure to try the raspberry ice tea, it is wonderful.

After finishing my lunch, I walked around the market.  There was so much to see.  I headed to their wine section first and let me tell you…it’s fantastic!  I found several wines in the $5 range and decided to buy a couple of bottles. One of them was a Chilean Carmenere.  I chose it because I had never tried a Carmenere before and am always looking for new wines.  I opened it on Christmas Eve with friends and everyone loved it.   It is a gorgeous deep-purple in color and has notes of blackberry, spice and smoke.  I loved this wine so much I am going to go back and get a case.  I highly recommend it.  It is only $5.99!  If you want to impress your friends, bring a bottle a dinner party.

After browsing the wine section, I couldn’t help but notice that they an incredible beer selection as well.  I am a sucker for cool looking labels and found plenty to choose from:

I was starting to run out of time, as I had to get back to work.  I took a quick walk through the rest of the store and saw that they offer some incredible products such as specialty chocolates, organic items, olive oils, pastas and more.  Their produce section is gorgeous and they have an incredible bakery.  Rollin’ Oats has something for every dietary need. This place rocks!

With the New Year just around the corner, I am sure many of you are making resolutions to eat healthier.  You really have to go to Rollin’ Oats and see what they have to offer.  It is your one-stop-shop for organic groceries, vitamins, incredible and healthy desserts, amazing wines, craft beers, organic meats, gorgeous produce and more.  Follow Rollin’ Oats on Twitter @rollinoatstampa for daily tweets on recipes and specials.  Visit their web-site for store specials and recipes at
